Southern Water is on the look-out for new and innovative ideas to help reduce water use in businesses across Sussex. The fund is open to all retailers, businesses and third party conservation providers.
What is the Business Partnership Fund?
• Water is a precious resource. Every year the population of the South East grows, but the amount of water available stays the same.
• Due to hotter summers and less rainfall, increased pressure Is put on our water supplies. If we keep consuming at our current rate, in time, demand will outstrip supply – as there’s only so much we can take from our environment.
• That’s just one reason why Southern Water is on the lookout for new and innovative ideas to help reduce water use in businesses.
• If local businesses have an idea for a project – whether it’s harvesting rain or shower water, fitting flow restrictors on taps, harnessing new technology to save water, education or behavioural change programmes they really should apply for this fantastic initiative.
What kind of ideas have winning businesses had?
• Asletts, a busy design and build company, wanted to be more sustainable, they applied for funding under the first round of our Business Partnership Fund.
• They were awarded £10,000 and used this to purchase special technical equipment that could save 250,000 litres of water each year.
• Asletts bought three painting and decorating cleaning stations, using recycled water to wash paint brushes and other equipment, and separate out chemicals from the paint. These chemicals are then made into a solid, to stop harmful substances from escaping into sewers.
• More details about this story are on the website: Asletts save 250,000 litres of water per year – Southern Water
• The deadline for applications closes on 31 December 2024
