Brighton & Hove Rotary Club raises £10,000 to fund the building of a family home in Ukraine

Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club has raised £10,000 to fund the building of a modular home for a family of 4 in the Ukranian village of Moshchun.

The village of Moshchun was almost totally destroyed in early days of conflict and became famous throughout the world as it was here that the Russian advance on Kyiv was halted. Nearly 85 percent of its buildings were destroyed and many local civilians lost their lives.

Local villagers are currently living in ruins and the need for accommodation is urgent as winters are harsh and long with first snows usually occurring by mid-October and with average temperatures dropping below zero

The homes are being built in West Ukraine – 150 can be built per month, subject to funding. Soiree and other Rotary Clubs throughout the country are working with Clubs in the Ukraine to provide this much-needed help.

Speaking on behalf of Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club, David Lane said “We are extremely grateful to all those individuals and local businesses that have supported this campaign. With other fundraising throughout the country, villagers who lost everything will now be able to have a “home”.
