Brighton & Hove Buses increases services as schools and colleges return

Bus service levels will increase from Sunday 7 March. From Monday 8 March we will be running to schoolday timetables and school services will resume too when students return for the Spring term.

Brighton & Hove and Metrobus’ Managing Director Martin Harris said: “We are expecting more people to use our services, especially with schools going back, so we’ve raised services to 90% of usual levels. We are really looking forward to welcoming passengers back on to our buses as lockdown eases and schools reopen.”

Martin said that the safety measures used when schools returned in September 2020 were still very much in place - such as dedicated buses and extra cleaning using hospital grade products.

“The increase in services is accompanied by continued social distancing and capacity limits on our buses. Our buses are clean, safe and accessible and all of them now have anti-virus air filters, which remove 99.99% of viruses and bacteria,” Martin said.

“Alongside these safety measures, please remember that it is still very important to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth for your entire journey, unless you are exempt.”

Children under 11 are exempt from wearing a face covering and face coverings do not need to be worn by children on school only services.

Martin said the bus company’s journeys for schoolchildren were in accordance with the guidance set out by the Department for Education and Department for Transport for dedicated bus journeys.
