Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Peter Field awarded KCVO in Honours List

Her Majesty has awarded the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field the KCVO (Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order). This is in recognition of his exceptional service to the crown over the last 12 years and is a personal award of the Queen.

He was appointed by The Queen to be Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for East Sussex in August 2008, having served as Her Majesty’s Vice Lord Lieutenant from 2000.

Sir Peter, a chartered surveyor by profession, used his skills to support the single homeless. He helped the introduction of the Foyer Federation to the UK and in the development of several major Sussex Housing Associations including Brighton Housing Trust and Southdown Housing Association.

A magistrate for more than 20 years before becoming Lord Lieutenant, he also chaired the Brighton and Hove Business Community Partnership on its inception in 1994. For many years he served on the South East Leadership Team for the Prince of Wales’ charity Business in the Community - being appointed the Prince of Wales’ Ambassador for the South East in 2003.

In the 1990s he chaired the City of Brighton and Hove’s Regeneration Partnership which contributed to many of the changes in the city that are visible today.

As Lord Lieutenant, Sir Peter has provided encouragement and support for all sectors of the community. This includes supporting and encouraging military organisations, the business sector, statutory undertakings, and charitable and voluntary groups.

BHEP Member Jim May DL said " I am delighted that the Lord Lieutenant has received this prestigious award. He has carried out his role with great distinction and I am sure that the business community will be very pleased to see this recognition"
