City Council call to businesses to apply for grant funding

City Council call to businesses to apply for grant funding

The government has given the city council over £73m to pay out in grants, with £62m paid out to over 4,500 businesses in the city so far. The only outstanding claims are those that require closer investigation to establish eligibility.

But despite having contacted every business we believe is eligible for a grant, council officials estimate there are still up to 800 businesses yet to apply. If you think you may be one of those business, please send your details through the secure portal at  www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/covid-business-support

Two small business grants are available:
• A grant of £10,000 for all businesses in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief
• A grant of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between £15,000 and £50,999

The grant is paid to the person who was responsible for paying business rates for the property on 11 March, and does not have to be repaid.  It is important to stress that government has guaranteed the grant to every eligible business, so claiming it does not deny other businesses the chance to claim the grant.
