SocialBox delivers 40 free grocery boxes to frontline local NHS staff

Local not-for-profit SocialBox has today announced that it will be donating its first donation of 40 free grocery boxes to local NHS workers at The Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Set up by catering sector business owners and employees in response to the coronavirus pandemic, SocialBox has been made possible by donations from the public via a GoFundMe campaign. Its products feature high-quality essential items from local independent suppliers and are available for free delivery across most of East and West Sussex.

“The team at SocialBox, like so many people, wanted to do our bit in helping vulnerable people in the community and our NHS workers. Thanks to the generous donations and box orders made by the public so far, we can deliver these 40 boxes today – and hopefully plenty more over the coming weeks” says SocialBox’ Founder and Steyning resident Aaron Douglass Bailey.

In addition to public donations, five per cent of the monies received from the purchase of its products is directly donated to the GoFundMe campaign contributing to the free boxes scheme. All free boxes will be delivered by a team of volunteers directly to hospital gates as emergency care staff are finishing their shifts.

“We’ve all discovered how difficult it can be to obtain even the most basic provisions at this time” continues Aaron. “We can provide our most isolated community members and our frontline care workers with what they and their families need - while also supporting local suppliers whose businesses are at risk in the current climate.”

Donations to the project can be made via GoFundMe with all proceeds contributing to free grocery deliveries to NHS staff. Alternatively, customers can order a grocery box for delivery to their own home by phone or via the website, with deliveries taking place on Tuesdays and Fridays each week.
