The Brighton Business Improvement District (BID) team has been recognised on the national stage after being shortlisted for a major industry OSPA (Outstanding Security Performance Awards), placing as runners up to the London City BID and the outstanding Cycle Medics initiative.
The awards ceremony, held on the 19th Feb, brought together exemplary teams from across the country whose work has made a significant difference within their communities. Although Brighton BID did not secure the top award, being shortlisted among such exceptional organisations stands as a powerful endorsement of the team's dedication, professionalism, and impact.
Cycle Medics—who ultimately took first place—were recognised for saving more than 50 lives in the past year, earning widespread admiration across the room. Their achievements were described as both remarkable and deeply deserving of national recognition.
Despite not taking the top prize, the Brighton BID team’s success in reaching the final was celebrated as a major accomplishment. Attendees heard numerous inspiring stories throughout the evening, highlighting just how meaningful it was for Brighton BID to be counted among such esteemed peers. The team’s presence in the finalist line up reflects the high calibre of their work and their ongoing contribution to supporting businesses and enhancing the city centre experience.
Regional Director for Atlas (the Brighton BID security company), Lee Craig said,
“To realise the Brighton BID team were there and shortlisted—they were truly deserving to be in a room of so many professionals, all of whom have achieved wonderful things. A testament to how good they are at what they do.”
Gavin Stewart, Brighton BID CEO said,
“We are deeply proud of the work of the BID Ambassadors on a daily basis. From regularly engaging with the street community and supporting its members with the most appropriate signposting or first aid, to returning over £70,000 worth of stolen goods back to BID businesses in the last year alone. They are also often the first call for positive IDs of criminals and central to many arrests resulting in positive outcomes for the wider city centre. Working in partnership with the Brighton Business Crime Reduction Partnership and Sussex Police we will continue to deliver the great service and work with local stakeholders to help make Brighton city centre a safer place for everyone. Huge congratulations to the team for making the finalist list in this year’s OSPAs”
