Michelle Connors
Newhaven Enterprise Zone (NEZ) has appointed Michelle Connors as its new programme manager, a role that will see her lead a range of regeneration and business support initiatives across the town.
Michelle has worked at NEZ for six years as business engagement manager and brings with her a strong track record of collaboration with local businesses and stakeholders.
In her new role, she will oversee the delivery of key projects designed to support economic growth and job creation.
Michelle said: “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience of working with Newhaven’s business community to this role and to continuing the delivery of programmes that support inclusive and sustainable employment opportunities.
“I’m very excited about the momentum building around the town centre and can’t wait to see how it evolves over the next couple of years. We already have some brilliant businesses in Newhaven and we’re focused on creating the right environment for more to thrive here.”
Michelle, who grew up in Eastbourne and has lived in Seaford since 2014, is particularly enthusiastic about the impact of the NEZ Town Centre Revitalisation Fund, which is helping businesses refresh their shopfronts and improve the look and feel of the town centre.
She also highlighted the importance of NEZ’s work alongside Lewes District Council and local partners on wider regeneration schemes, such as the planned Health and Wellbeing Hub in Newhaven Square and the Wayfinding and Public Realm Improvement Scheme.
She continued: “We’ve seen encouraging signs of change, such as new cafés, pubs and restaurants opening in the town centre - something local businesses have long told us they wanted to see more of.
“We’re continuing to explore ways to support the hospitality sector and to make the town centre a more appealing place for residents, workers and visitors alike.”
Looking ahead, Michelle plans to relaunch the Newhaven Business Forums with guest speakers and opportunities for local businesses to share ideas, access support and collaborate. She is also committed to working with schools and colleges to raise awareness of local job and apprenticeship opportunities.
Michelle added: “There’s a lot of energy and ambition in Newhaven and I’m proud to be part of the team helping to shape its future.”
