Under the Housing Act (2002) all councils with housing responsibilities must have a homelessness strategy. The current strategy expires this year.
The draft homelessness and rough sleeping strategy for 2025 to 2030 sets out Brighton & Hove’s plans for preventing homelessness and ensuring that sufficient accommodation and support are available to people who are at risk of becoming homeless or currently homeless.
The draft strategy also contains a small number of outcome measures so that we can demonstrate progress.
BHCC is proposing three priorities for the strategy:
Increase our effectiveness in preventing homelessness and rough sleeping
Improve temporary accommodation pathways and experiences
Provide joined-up support with our partners to people who most need help
The draft strategy also includes a dedicated chapter on tackling homelessness in children, families and young people.
BHCC make three commitments to:
be fair and inclusive
work in partnership
make best use of our resources
