Launching the Climate:Change Briefing Paper on growth and economic development
• If you are interested in the cost of Net Zero and the pace of transition, this meeting is for you.
• If you are concerned about possible trade-offs between growth and the environment, this meeting is for you (and if you are an advocate of ‘degrowth’, all the more so).
• If you want to help think about how to ‘green’ our biggest economic sectors, like tourism, or eating out, or culture, or conferences, or retail, or financial services, then this meeting is for you.
• And if you have an interest in growth clusters of the future, including digital and university spin-offs, then, again, this meeting is for you.
The Briefing Paper envisions a City of 400,000 people by 2040, with an economy worth £20bn a year, twice its present size. It describes a ‘Green Beacon’ future for Brighton and Hove, with more and better jobs, less inequality, lower emissions, and better adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The question for the meeting is how to get there. We need your input.
The event will take place on Thursday, 12 June, from 18.00 – 19.30 at the Brighthelm Centre. Don’t forget you need a (free) ticket, via Eventbrite here.
