Take part in early engagement about the future of local government in Brighton & Hove.
The government is reorganising local councils across England to enable all areas to be served by unitary councils, where services are provided in one place.
Brighton & Hove City Council is already a Unitary Authority, but our neighbouring areas in East and West Sussex currently operate under a ‘two-tier’ system (between county, district and borough councils where services are split between them). As this changes, we have an opportunity to consider whether Brighton & Hove should remain as it is or explore options to combine with other areas.
We have launched a short survey asking for initial views on local government reorganisation and whether Brighton & Hove should stay as it is or combine with other areas. Take part in the survey on the Your Voice engagement platform.
No decisions have been made, and the council is keen to hear from businesses, residents and partners to help shape our approach. Your input will inform an interim plan for government, that must be submitted by 21 March.
The survey is open to Monday 10 March.
Further engagement will take place over the summer to develop a formal proposal for submission to government in September. More information about local government reorganisation and devolution in Sussex is on the council’s website.
