More than 20,000 people took to the streets of Brighton on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April 2024 for the biggest Brighton Marathon Weekend since the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the second year that London Marathon Events (LME) had organised the event and it showcased the great strides to celebrate everything that makes Brighton and Hove such a vibrant and unique city.
Ralph Turner, Commercial Development Manager at LME, said: “We understand the value of working with partners that are embedded within the communities that we run through, and ahead of the 2025 event we’d like to speak to more local companies about the opportunities to partner with the Brighton Marathon Weekend. As the largest sporting event taking place in the city each year, we believe there are amazing opportunities to work with local businesses and the local community.”
The Brighton Marathon Weekend continues to grow in terms of participants, with record numbers already signed up to run the marathon in 2025. But growing the event doesn’t just mean more people signing up, LME is also continuing to develop the event’s reflection of the city.
Since taking over the marathon in January 2023 – when the previous organisers went into administration, threatening the future of the third-largest marathon in the UK – LME has put the event on a firm financial footing and 2024 saw the first stages of an ambitious and exciting vision for the Brighton Marathon Weekend.
The newly rebranded Brighton Miles took place in Preston Park on Saturday 6 April. This was a free event welcoming people from across the community to complete a mile. For the first time the event was open to everyone, giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to get involved. The Brighton Marathon on Sunday 7 April saw the launch of an exciting new brand for the whole event, reflecting the vibrancy, fun and atmosphere of the city.
But the Brighton Marathon Weekend is more than just two spectacular days in April each year. LME works with its parent charity, the London Marathon Foundation, throughout the year to inspire activity in all ages, abilities and communities across the UK. In December 2023 the Foundation awarded £250,000 to the Brighton Table Tennis Club to set up a new community sports facility in Moulsecoomb.
Every penny of profit made by the LME portfolio of events is given to the Foundation to support causes such as this and as the Brighton Marathon Weekend grows, the city will continue to benefit. This success, however, cannot be achieved alone. [16:08] Edward Henderson
LME works closely with numerous stakeholders and thousands of volunteers, who make the event possible, and believes that connecting with more local companies can help it achieve even greater things.
LME would like to speak to more companies in the city about the range of partnership opportunities available at the 2025 Brighton Marathon Weekend, taking place on 5 and 6 April next year. This is an exciting event that has previously seen great results for LME’s partners, including:
• Extensive marketing to a large and engaged local audience
• Unparalleled employee engagement opportunities
• Direct retail and activation opportunities at the event itself
For members of the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership, however, perhaps more valuable than anything is the opportunity to embed your organisation in the heart of an event that helps make the city so special.
