Ports industry recognises Shoreham Port with Inclusive Workplace Award

At a packed event in Portsmouth, Shoreham Port colleagues proudly received the sought-after Inclusive Workplace Award at the 2024 British Ports Association (BPA) Awards. Hosted by Portsmouth International Port at their historic Dockyard, the awards ceremony marked the conclusion of the 2024 British Ports Association conference, which celebrated excellence and innovation across the UK ports industry. With five award categories, the BPA’s membership of over 100 ports had the opportunity to showcase their achievements and contributions to the sector.

The Inclusive Workplace Award recognises a port or marine facility that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality in the workplace over the past 18 months. Guided by our Masterplan and core values, the Shoreham Port team has implemented a series of initiatives aimed at improving diversity, promoting equal opportunities, and encouraging the growth and development of all colleagues. Key areas of focus include:

• Values based decision making and cultural improvement.

• Continuous improvements in health and safety

• Multiple opportunities for colleague feedback, involvement and engagement

• Investment in colleague training and professional development

• Expansion of an Apprenticeship Programme

• Active efforts to measure and close gender pay gaps

• Participation in educational initiatives such as careers fairs, work experience, and internships

• Engagement with The Girls' Network to mentor and inspire young women

• Involvement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships and the Port’s annual Sustainability Week
