What future Maths skills does Brighton & Hove need?

Multiply is a priority of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which supports the governments Levelling Up mission: to ensure that by 2030, the number of people successfully completing high-quality skills training will have significantly increased in every area of the United Kingdom. Subject to Department of Education approval to our investment plan, Brighton and Hove will receive over £900K funding over 3 years, to improve the functional numeracy skills of adults over the age of 19.

This means helping people to improve their ability to understand and use maths in daily life, home, and work. Whether that be improving household finances, helping children with homework, making more sense of the facts in the media, or improving numeracy skills specific to a line of work.

Delivering Multiply will involve the provision of creative interventions and a co-ordinated effort of partners across the city. We need you to complete our survey to tell us about gaps and how you could work in partnership with training providers to utilise the funding 2022-2025 across a range of interventions.

The survey covers a number of themes that impact on employment for example:

• numerical confidence in everyday life by de-mystify maths and making it relevant and relatable,

• numeracy skills to support career progression and improve confidence in the workplace

• The development of provision to enhance progression, career prospects and upskilling

If you are an employer or self-employed please share your views about these themes - what the gaps are and what support or interventions will help you and your workforce.

Brighton & Hove’s Multiply funding is £917,932 over three years as:

• 2022-23: £277,514.40

• 2023-24: £320,08.92

• 2024-25: £320,208.92
