RAMPION WIND FARM HITS WIND ENERGY TARGET AGAIN
The Rampion Offshore Wind Farm team is celebrating achieving their power generation target in 20211, producing enough clean, green energy during the year to power the equivalent of 350,0002 homes.
“Despite a year in which we had less wind than normal, we were able to ensure that Rampion generated our target energy supply and reduced carbon emissions by approximately 600,000 tonnes3,” said Richard Crowhurst, General Manager, Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.
“We accomplished this by working hard to achieve our best year to date for turbine reliability, meaning we utilised the maximum wind power available. I want to thank the whole Rampion Operations team who have continued to work safely throughout the pandemic, to achieve this important goal and play their part in keeping the UK’s vital energy infrastructure operating.”
The wind farm was commissioned in 2018 and this completes its third fully operational year. It has consistently met its power targets and due to higher levels of wind, in 2020 beat them by 15 per cent.
Rampion Wind Farm is proud to be part of the local community and support initiatives that benefit the lives of local people. Opening last year, the Rampion Visitor Centre on Brighton seafront offers the Sussex community and visitors a free attraction, bringing to life the story of human settlement through dozens of displays and interactive exhibits. The centre also showcases technological advancement and population growth, alongside climate change, renewable energy, and the construction of Rampion.
The centre is part of the £4 million Rampion Community Fund which is currently open for the latest round of community funding applications until 5pm on the 25th March. It is managed by Sussex Community Foundation and aims to support organisations working for the benefit of local people. The fund is open to charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations, operating within the fund benefit area, which runs from Littlehampton to Eastbourne and inshore to Mid Sussex.
