WrapUp campaign to help homeless and vulnerable includes Worthing for the first time

“Warm A Heart, Give A Coat” is the motto of the #WrapUpWorthing coat collection that Rotary Clubs are launching in Worthing for the first time this November. Due to increased demand, the campaign has expanded from Brighton and Hove, where thanks to the generosity of local people, it’s been running successfully for the last 4 years.

Eight Rotary Clubs (Brighton, Hove, Brighton & Hove Soiree, Brighton Beachside, Tarring Park, Worthing, Central Sussex and Highdown) are rising to the challenge to collect warm coats to help local adults and children in need this winter.

“We know about the big increase in people using foodbanks but there’s also a huge need for warm coats this winter,” says Rotarian Robert Griffiths. “Rotary Clubs are involving the community by hosting collection points at local train stations, schools and businesses.”

Collections will take place on the mornings of the 14th, 15th and 16th November 2022 at Worthing Central Train Station (7.30 to 10.30 am) and at Brighton and Hove stations (7.00 to 11.00am) “Govia have been very supportive in allowing us to use the stations as collection points” says Rotarian Ann Dieckmann.

Working with the Rotary Clubs, Charity partners, Sussex Homeless Support will sort collected coats and redistribute them to community groups and charities in Brighton, Hove and Worthing.

“We’re so pleased to introduce this campaign to Worthing, especially this year, which will be particularly challenging for many people in our area. We’re sure there’ll be fantastic support from the generous and community-minded people who live and work in Worthing. Our heartfelt thanks go to Sussex Homeless Support and Turning Tides, who in Worthing, will make sure the coats we collect get to the people who need them most,” says Rotarian Andrew Lawrence.

The Wrap Up campaign was founded over 10 years ago by charity HandsOn London. It’s been operating successfully in many cities across the country even during COVID lockdowns.
