Brighton & Hove Buses increases services as students return
Brighton & Hove Buses is increasing some of its peak-time services from Sunday 5 September 2021 as students go back to school and commuters return to the office.
The bus company is increasing buses at peak time on several routes from this weekend, including routes 6, 23, 25 and 25X, while revising timetables on other routes, such as routes 1, 18 and 21, to better match passenger demand.
Routes will be extended on some morning journeys to start at Churchill Square or Old Steine (instead of London Road shops), in response to passenger feedback. There are also minor changes on other routes.
Brighton & Hove Buses’ Managing Director Martin Harris said: “We are really pleased to welcome more people back on to our buses as schools, colleagues and universities begin their autumn terms. Because we are expecting more passengers, we’ve increased our services to meet demand on a number of routes, particularly those serving education establishments.
“I’d like to thank Brighton & Hove City Council and the city’s head teachers and chancellors for working with us during the pandemic to help plan bus services to best meet demand. It means we can get students quickly and safely to school and university and back home again. That said, we are always open passengers’ suggestions and making further changes, where possible.”
Martin said that while face coverings were no longer compulsory on public transport, people were strongly encouraged to wear one, unless exempt. “We highly recommend that passengers who can wear face coverings continue to wear them over their nose and mouth for their entire journey, unless they cannot. Let’s keep acting responsibly and help keep each other safe.”
Martin said that bus safety measures used when schools returned in September 2020 were still very much in place and some additional measures had been introduced. This included extra cleaning using hospital grade products, window blockers to keep windows open, on-board hand sanitiser and anti-virus air filters.
