New bus ticketing app goes live

Brighton & Hove and Metrobus passengers have a new, improved travel app with better journey planning and real-time information, service updates and favourite journeys and stops, developed in response to feedback from passengers.

New features include a step count and carbon emissions calculator, so passengers can see the emissions they save by catching the bus and leaving their cars at home. Passengers can now view full timetables for all the bus company’s services, something passengers said they missed.

As of today (12 May), passengers can download the app on iOS or Android devices and instantly buy tickets for immediate use on the bus.

Brighton & Hove and Metrobus Managing Director Martin Harris said: “We listened to what our customers were telling us, about what could work better on the app and what was missing, and I’m confident that the new app does the job very well. It delivers the kind of customer experience that all of us want and deserve.

“Lockdowns have meant cleaner air and less traffic. Active travel is the best way to hang on to these important gains and that means walking, cycling and catching the bus.”

Features of the new app include easy ticket purchase, live departure boards for bus stops and being able to check how busy a bus is as it approaches a stop.

The apps are powered by leading public transport app and website provider, Passenger Technology Group, which creates easy-to-use technology and helps travellers feel confident and in control of their journey.

Tom Quay, CEO of Passenger said: "As advocates for shared sustainable transport, Passenger are thrilled to see operators choosing to invest now in digital technology and be ready to start welcoming customers back to the bus. Brighton & Hove and Metrobus are consistently ahead of the game, ready to innovate, and always put their customers first.”
