MADE51 pop-up in Brighton showcases refugee-made home décor and accessories, in collaboration with The FAIR Shop

In the centre of Brighton’s busy Duke’s Lane, holiday shoppers can find something special this year – a pop-up shop stocked with artisanal products made by refugees. The pop-up presents MADE51 home décor, accessories, and holiday ornaments, and can be found at MADE51 x The FAIR Shop at 9 Duke’s Lane. The pop-up will run until the 23rd December every day Monday to Sunday 11.00 to 5.30pm.

MADE51 products are made around the world and showcase the talent and heritage of refugees from Syria and Afghanistan to South Sudan, Mali and beyond.

Customers can find items like cushion covers embroidered by Afghan refugee women in Pakistan and hand-dyed sisal grass baskets woven by Burundian refugee women in Rwanda. Naturally, the best-seller during the holiday season is MADE51’s collection of 24 holiday ornaments. Each design carries a special meaning tied to its origin and makes the perfect gift or stocking stuffer.

MADE51 aims to be a sustainable supply chain providing local living wages to refugees. Refugees often leave behind their livelihoods when fleeing violence – MADE51 offers refugee artisans a way to earn an income and, in so doing, the opportunity to rebuild their livelihoods and re-establish their independence.

Kelly Clements, Deputy High Commissioner for the United Nations Refugee Agency said: “Rather than viewing the millions of refugees across the globe as a burden, MADE51 sees untapped talent and potential that, if unlocked, can directly benefit displaced women, men, and children, as well as host communities and local businesses.”

Shoppers are invited to browse the collection, buy and take home beautiful, refugee-made craftsmanship that provide sustainable long term livelihoods for refugees.
