National careers service support
In response to the Covid- 19 pandemic the National Careers Service are working with local partners to support employers who are furloughing or losing staff.
Advisers will work with employers who are making redundancies or putting people at risk. Employers can be also be supported with skills needs analysis during the furlough period to help them to plan ahead.
The National Careers Service, offers free and impartial, information, advice and guidance to help to support and enable people to make informed decisions about careers, courses and work.

Advisers help individuals to;
• Explore options and career aspirations
• Understand the local job market
• Develop or enhance CVs
• Search and apply for jobs
• Apply for apprenticeships, training and learning
• Identify key strengths and skills
• Develop an action plan to help individuals achieve their goals
• Make use of online tools available
• Interactive workshops on a range of topics
In response to the pandemic additional services are available;
• Helping to match applicants to employers who are recruiting
• Supporting DWP and jobcentre staff to direct people seeking work to essential vacancies
• Extending the relationship with jobseekers to help them to assess and develop their skills and plan for the future
• Developing and disseminating careers advice and guidance contents for parents/pupils to use at home
• Supporting students whose examinations have been cancelled
• Contacting furloughed workers to encourage them to develop their skills whilst on furlough
• New approaches for delivery of careers advice, including online skills assessment
