A Social Club for Social Good Creates Brighton Community Fund

The founder of a unique grassroots group in Brighton and Hove, which has attracted more than 2,000 members, is raising funds for Brighton food banks and community groups with a Coronavirus community fund.

Toni Finnimore, who set up The Social Society in October 2018, created the Brighton community Crowdfunder to help support the vulnerable in this time of crisis.

The funds will be distributed to:

• Local food banks so they can purchase food and create food packages to be delivered/ collected safely in line with guidance
• Fund self-isolation packages with essentials for locals for pick up or collection in line with local guidance
• Coordinate local WhatsApp groups via existing mutual aid groups and supply funds to those in crisis
• Support community groups actively supporting vulnerable groups with much needed funds

“The rapid decline in access to food and essentials due to panic buying is extremely worrying, there are vulnerable people in need that will struggle to access the most basic supplies”

Alongside supporting the city financially, Toni has created a set of online digital events including a read along book club, coffee and coaching sessions around anxiety and a social society skills swap aimed at connecting people via skills-sharing, local signposting, digital income streams and freelance support.
