Coast to Capital is recruiting a new Chair

Coast to Capital is seeking an outstanding senior business figure in order to help lead
the region and deliver its ambitious Local Industrial Strategy. Currently chaired by Tim
Wates, who will be stepping down in July 2020, the Coast to Capital Board brings
together a diverse mix of regional business leaders alongside senior politicians and
leaders from Universities and Further Education.

As the economic climate changes, the Coast to Capital area is facing new and different
challenges. Against the backdrop of the Strategic Economic Plan, Gatwick 360, the
Board recognise that the role of its Chair should be one that inspires confidence in the
voice of business, government, local authorities and combined authorities. It is vital
that the LEP can demonstrate that it understands the needs of and opportunities for
business and can effectively articulate these into strategic economic advice and
implementation.

The role will appeal to someone who is keen to make a difference and give
something back at the same time as benefitting from an exciting opportunity to
progress their own personal growth. This will include the opportunity to make key
strategic decisions on various funding streams such as the £300 million Local
Growth Fund portfolio and the Growing Places Fund.

Tim Wates, Coast to Capital Chair said:
“I highly recommend the role – it is very rooted in giving back to this wonderful region
as well as requiring engagement nationally with Government and the wider LEP
network. This mix of local and national makes it very stimulating and you can make a
real positive difference to this region that we are all so passionate about.
If you feel this role could work for you please do apply – we are keen to hear from a
diverse range of people who can bring their ideas, skills and ambition to this exciting
role.”

Martin Harris, Coast to Capital Board Member said:

“This is a very exciting time to join the Coast to Capital Board and we are looking for a
Chair who is passionate about helping lead the area forward. The Government has
confirmed that we will play an important role in delivering local economic growth
through our Local Industrial Strategy. Our strategy will prioritise the most important
issues facing our area, and as such, it is vital that we are led by a senior business figure
with the skills and expertise we need to meet the challenges and opportunities the future
will bring.”

Coast to Capital is committed to creating an inclusive organisation that promotes
and values diversity and is keen to hear from enthusiastic and inspiring individuals
who can understand and represent businesses across the area. The candidate will
have a proven ability to steer the public, private, and education sectors in the
promotion and acceleration of economic growth. Coast to Capital strives to ensure
our workforce reflects our region’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications
from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or
disability.
