Business service to erase and reuse your old tech launches January 2021

Tech-Takeback partnered with The ZeroNet to create a new small electricals collection service, powered by The ZeroNet app and free to residents of Brighton & Hove. With support from Brighton & Hove City Council and the Recycle Your Electricals campaign, Tech Take Back are offering all residents access to doorstep collections of their unwanted small electricals.

To request a collection, residents can either download The ZeroNet app available at RevaluElectricals Collection Service - Tech-Takeback or if you are not able or do not wish to download the app, you can request a collection via the Tech-Takeback website Collection Request - Tech-Takeback.

The collections are socially-distanced to comply with COVID-19 requirements and are made using an electric vehicle. The small electricals are taken to an operations facility where data-bearing items are securely data erased and certificates of data erasure are sent to the resident. Following this, tech items are sorted for suitability for reuse, component reuse or if at the end of life, for responsible recycling.

Following preparation for reuse, tech items are redistributed to enable digital inclusion via our local partners including Digital Brighton & Hove. Non-tech items for reuse are redistributed via charity partner, Freegle Brighton.

The service is also scaled up for businesses at cost.

• Tech-Takeback offer a secure data erasure and collection service of tech for businesses. Following data erasure, the business is sent Certificates of Data Erasure which they are required to keep for their audit trail for data protection and GDPR purposes

• Tech-Takeback is also able to offer electrical goods retailers a takeback and data erasure service (in line with the WEEE Extended Producer Responsibility regime and the requirement for retailers to offer takeback services from 1st January 2021)
