Same Sky, the community arts charity behind Brighton’s annual winter solstice parade Burning the Clocks, today announces that £9,066 was raised following its crowdfunder and business partnerships over the past two months.

John Varah, Same Sky artistic director, said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Burning the Clocks another success. Despite difficult weather conditions on the night, it was great to see so many people take part in the parade and to get the support from those that braved the weather to join in the winter solstice celebrations.

“We would also like to extend a huge thanks to everybody that supported our crowdfunder, those that put money into the collection buckets and our event sponsor The Chilli Pickle. Burning the Clocks receives no guaranteed funding, and simply wouldn’t happen without those who supported the event. Thanks to a huge community effort, we raised just over £9,000,” added Varah.

The volunteer-led bucket collection on the night of Burning the Clocks raised £1,926.37 and the crowdfunder exceeded its target and raised £5,859 from 106 individuals. The crowdfunder was made possible thanks to local artists and businesses donating prizes. Graham Carter created limited edition prints for Burning the Clocks which sold out, and local restaurants Chilli Pickle, Kooks, Terre a Terre, Moshimo and The Ivy in the Lanes donated dining experiences.

Local Brighton business, The Chilli Pickle, also contributed £1,281 to the cost of the event. This money was raised from donations from diners throughout December.
