Carlton Hill Primary School raises £2,500 at its Christmas fete

Carlton Hill Primary School in Queen’s Park raised over £2,500 for school supplies at its annual Winter Fair this weekend. The school’s PTA welcomed around 350 children, parents and local community members to the fair held on Sunday 08 December.

Guests enjoyed homemade festive treats and mulled punch whilst children visited Santa’s hideaway to create their own tree decorations and sing Christmas carols. Pupils helped decorate presents to be donated to the Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project and were rewarded with chocolate coins from Father Christmas himself!

The PTA was also selling the first ever Carlton Hill Primary School parents’ cook book, The Cookery Project, which was born out of a passion to share recipes and food between cultures and families at Carlton Hill.

A Christmas Tree and decorations, as well as supplies for a Christmas Lunch, were donated by Edward Street Quarter’s developers, First Base, and a big-ticket raffle item – a new Samsung tablet – was contributed by McLaren Construction.

Steve Eccles, Project Director at First Base, said: “We are pleased to be proud supporters of the school’s Winter Fair and Christmas Lunch again this year. We are delighted to be able to spread some seasonal cheer amongst local children with a new Christmas tree, decorations, presents, food and drink for the school to properly celebrate the festive season. We are already looking forward to announcing our next project with the school in the new year!”

Tamsen Beer, Head Teacher at Carlton Hill Primary School, commented: “We’re thrilled that this year’s Winter Fair was such a success. The raffle drew crowds keen to win something special and the tablet proved to be very popular. Thank you to everyone who came together to make this special day possible.”

All proceeds from the Winter Fair will go towards necessary resources for the children of Carlton Hill Primary School, including the funding of school trips in the new year.
